why are we here?

Tomorrow I’m giving my students a sheet that says “What topics are we studying right now? What is our big question? What is one thing you’ve learned so far in this unit? What is one thing you still want to know?”

I am very interested to see how they answer. It would be enlightening to know, I think, if they have any idea what we do in my class every day.

As far as yesterday’s entry, I should have been clear; I can only, of course, speak to the current small-schools movement in NYC. There might be better-implemented versions somewhere else, or even in some other part of the city.

Another perspective on the same issue is here.

I think I will borrow those questions, from time to time. To keep my teaching honest, more or less. Thanks.
